egypt: a parable

A young woman is walking along the Nile when she slipped and fell in. She could not swim and as she was sinking, she cried out for help.

A salafi walked by and said, “I cannot offer her my hand, it would break my wudu!” And he continued on his way.

A copt walked by and said, “I can’t help, she a muslim.” And he continued on his way.

An ikwani walked by and said, “I will have to ask my mashaikh if I can help.” And he continued on his way.

A secularist walked by and said, “take off all your clothes and you will float!” And he continued on his way.

A young revolutionary walked by and said, “I’ll save you!” He jumped into the water, forgetting that he also could not swim, and he drowned.

That night, the government run media televised that reports of a young woman drowning in the Nile were greatly exaggerated.
