a long and winding road

not all those who wander are lost

Confession:
I am a Star Wars fanatic married to someone completely indifferent to Star Wars.  8 years we’ve been married, and I’ve never been able to interest him in seeing the movies, watching Clone Wars, or doing much beyond reading a few pages from one of my many SW graphic novels.
And I’ve convinced him to see the Phantom Menace with me this Saturday.
On one hand I’m all like yaaay, finally!
And on the other, I go, oh dear God, what am I doing?  Is it right for someone’s first exposure to the wonder that is the Star Wars universe to be Jar Jar Binks?
If he comes away from the theater thinking Star Wars is nothing special, I plan to rush him home, tie him to a chair and read aloud as much Heir to the Empire as I can before he manages to wriggle out of the ropes.
Tangentially, I’m also interested to see how someone views Star Wars when they see the movies from “the beginning.”  I grew up with Star Wars - saw the original trilogy in the mid 80s, watched the Ewoks cartoon, and started reading the EU novels from Heir to the Empire on out.  My head canon is original triology + eu.  The prequels are a fuzzy haze in the background, only important when they are brought up in novels and comics.
Should be an interesting experiment, if nothing else.
